Vinyl Richie has been Djing professionally since 1999. Before then he had been a bedroom DJ since 1993, making mix tapes and learning the basics. He then began to get into scratching and was inspired by the likes of the Invisible Scratch Piklz, Beatjunkies, DJ Craze and DJ Faust. In 1998 he bought a professional scratch mixer and began his first tentative steps in the scratching world.

“I’m not a battle dj in anyway. I’m just a musician who happens to use the turntable as an instrument.”

In 2000 Vinyl Richie met DJ Sneakee and Clockwork (Now the Drunken Masters) and they formed the tablist collective Spaceinfaders and he started to promote there monthly club night. He also co-hosted a weekly radio show with DJ Caramac on London’s Juice FM. In 2001 he was asked to promote the ITF UK DJ Championships. In 2002 he spent the first 6 months in Dubai Djing at various nightclubs and bars. Also he completed work on his first Battle record “ Retarded Baby Breakz ”. At the end of 2002 DJ Tigerstyle and vinyl Richie decided to work on collaboration and soon afterwards Vinyl Style was formed, combining both our unique sounds to form a Turntablist duo. The LP was to be something unique in which it was to be recorded live and thus played live. Vinyl Style performed throughout Europe and the UK at various Competitions and events with great acclaim. He has co-produced a battle break record with Tigerstyle titled, Vinyl-Style Skratch Record. This is a record that is made purely for turntablists and producers. It contains a mixture of skipless scratch samples, instruments, beat-juggle and word sections and also tracks from their live performances. This was released in August 2003 and is still available for various retailers or direct from www.ukturntablist.com.
