The Beatnik
What the dictionary says about me:
Beatnik: ‘a young person in the late 1950s who rebelled against conventional attitudes and styles of dress.’

To me this definition means remaining at the core of a true hip hop mentality which endorses originality to be a desirable quality. Being different seems to be a taboo concept these days, but I shall not go further into this point before I get onto a ‘State of Hip Hop’ rant! Let’s just say that I’m trying to do my bit as opposed to sitting back and accepting it. That is my future goal, but as the saying goes, ‘to know where you’re going you need to know where you’ve been’, so let me give you a brief history of myself.

My journey of sonic expression began in 2002. Listening to the likes of Madlib and Dj Premier inspired me to make a contribution to the culture I loved too much (and still do)! Through times of set up upgrades, messed up girlfriends and studying in a different city, my current debut release of Count 2:10 was concocted, a collaborative effort with label mate Mr Brown. I say mate because that was the basis on which I first met him a couple of years ago, and we both happened to have a shared passion. Through mutual respect for each others musical ability, the instrumental EP was born.

Hip Hop music may be my foundation, but my creative juices flow in many different directions so expect multiple projects to come from me with varied twists and turns. In the words of Raekwon on the Wu-tang forever album…’Keep ya third eye open.’
